About Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani
Formally established in 1956, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) is an Indian university with a strong focus on engineering, the sciences and management. The university became recognisable as the one it is today in 1964.
As well as its original institute, located in Pilani, India, BITS also has satellite campuses in Goa and Hyderabad, as well as Dubai.
Its main Pilani campus is situated overs 1,000 acres of land with accommodation that includes 11 hostels for men and one for women. Each hostel is named after a saint, a historical or religious figure.
BITS’ Dubai campus is located in the Dubai International Academic City and offers undergraduate and graduate courses in engineering, sciences and management, in line with the university’s mission. It is affiliated with the Association of Electronic Engineers and Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Dubai.
The Goa campus is situated on the banks of the Zuari River and houses 2,600 students. Its cricket ground has hosted a number of national level tournaments and other cultural, technical and sports festivals are regularly held there.
BIT’s Hyderabad campus focuses on Electronics and Communications Engineering. Set within its 220 acres are the university’s central library, laboratories and a rock garden.
The Model United Nations Conference, an annual academic competition, is held at BITS (BITSMUN) and is one of the largest of its kind in the Indian subcontinent, attracts participants from all over the world.
The university also hosts other notable events, including a technical festival, an annual cultural festival, and TechBazaar, a competition for investors to showcase their work.
