Université Côte d'Azur is a large public scientific, cultural, and professional institution which brings together 18 of the Côte d’Azur’s leading academic players around a historical university core. Its fundamental missions are the higher education of students and professionals, excellence in research, and innovation for the benefit of all.
Since January 1, 2020, we have strived to build a 21st century French university based on new interactions between disciplines (multidisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity) and driven by dynamic collaborations that connect Education, Research and Innovation, as well as strong local, national, and international partnerships with the public and private sectors.
Among the top 9 research-intensive universities in France, with a strong international reputation
Université Côte d'Azur is committed to transformation and excellence, which it has achieved thanks to the Initiative of Excellence (IdEx) that was awarded in 2016 and made permanent in 2021, placing it among the top 9 research-intensive universities in France, with a strong international reputation. Home to 3IA Côte d’Azur, one of the four Interdisciplinary Institutes of Artificial Intelligence inaugurated in 2019, Université Côte d’Azur also created the French School of AI (EFELIA Côte d'Azur) in 2022, and established Graduate Research Schools (EUR). The university aims to be a major research-intensive university with both strong roots in our region and an international and European outlook, notably through the European University "Ulysseus" of which Université Côte d’Azur is a founding member.
A pleasant environment for its staff and students
Université Côte d'Azur has several campuses, mainly in Nice, Sophia Antipolis and Cannes but also widely distributed between Seyne-sur-Mer and Menton. Ideally situated between the sea and the mountains, it offers a pleasant environment for staff and students. Its location in the heart of Europe combined with easy access via the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport makes it a gateway to the academic and scientific world.
Université Côte d'Azur directly employs more than 3,000 staff and enrolls more than 30,000 students each year.

From bachelor to doctorate
Université Côte d'Azur has embarked on an unprecedented educational transition. One of the distinctive features of this modernization is the restructuring of bachelor's degree courses. Each discipline is connected to others through cross-disciplinary "portals", enabling students to personalize their course of study between disciplinary and cross-disciplinary teaching units.
The bachelor's degree portals are linked to one or more of the 8 graduate schools that structure the master's and doctoral programs.
Université Côte d'Azur's graduate schools offer training of the highest quality, based on the research projects of our laboratories. Students’ learning is closely tied to research and societal issues, with strong involvement from our researchers and business partners.
A rich, multi-disciplinary range of courses
The Université Côte d'Azur offers a wide range of degree courses. These courses are open to all types of students: baccalaureate holders, university students, international students, as well as workers returning to school for continuing education, with or without a baccalaureate.
The University is constantly improving the quality of its teaching, with small class sizes, modern teaching facilities, distance learning, individualized follow-up, and other measures that are synonymous with success for our students.

Delivering research excellence
Thanks to the excellence of its research institutes and its potential for innovation, Université Côte d'Azur has an ambitious university-wide approach. Research is carried out by over 50 research units and laboratories. Our researchers are involved in fundamental and applied research activities, and in national and international networks. They also play a major role in developing innovation and supporting the Côte d'Azur business community.
A commitment to transdisciplinarity
As part of its commitment to transdisciplinarity as a means of exploring new areas of research, the university has set up five Academies of Excellence to build new interactions between researchers from different disciplines. This experimental, integrative structure is designed to encourage the emergence of new concepts and scientific innovations.
Université Côte d'Azur takes particular care to develop the excellence of its research while respecting ethics and scientific integrity.
